Stock up on Fairtrade at ecofest

This Saturday is a good day to do some ethical buying.

We’re lucky to have the lovely Rae come over from St Lukes and host a stall of well priced fair trade goods.

A range of coffee, tea, chocolate, rice and other goodies will all be waiting for you to take them home!

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices, Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Quill Howard – Ethical Fashion and Textiles

Quill will be hosting a discussion at  ecofest at 10:30am on ethical fashion and textiles.

here’s a few thoughts from her to give you an idea of where the discussion might go!

Have you ever thought about the manufacturing process behind the clothing you purchase?

I never used to. In the past when I found a bargain priced item of clothing I
would think, ʻYay! Bonus, that was a bargain.ʼ
I never thought about how the cotton was grown or who made the item of clothing. It never crossed my mind.

Over the past few years I have been looking into the ethics and sustainability of the fashion and textile industry and have been saddened and shocked by the lack of human rights for workers around the world.

I want to know that the clothing I buy has not been made in a sweatshop factory, or the cotton picked by a child under forced labour.
I have started to change how I shop.

By supporting companies who are making a difference I know I can influence change.

If you knew how unethical the process was, would you be willing to change your purchase habits?

I invite you to join me in an informal discussion around what I believe to be an important topic. I am happy to share the information I have found, including great websites and companies who are already making a difference in the industry. To give you the power to make more informed choice.

I look forward to talking with you.

calling for ‘green-market’ stallholders!

we’re looking for stall holders – are you keen?

a large part of our ecofest will be our green market. We are hoping to have stall holders locally and from further afield come along and spruik their wares.

we’re asking for people who have products/information that is either – organic, upcycled/recycled/repurposed, made from natural products, fairtrade, or provides a better environmental solution.

have a look at our market conditions pdf (on the pages -  both on the sidebar and on a tab at the top of this blog- next to about) to find more about how you can be involved. also find the rego form there and send that through to us to secure your market stall.

most of our market stalls will be indoors – unless you request other wise!

get on board early and get a good spot.
